HVI to Sponsor Green Ventilation Seminar Series and Prize Drawing at Comfortech 2008 The Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) has partnered with the 2008 HVAC Comfortech Seminar & Showcase, the premier residential and light commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) forum, to produce a four part series of educational seminars focusing on the impact green building has on residential ventilation and indoor air quality. “By sponsoring these four green-focused seminars, HVI is able to increase the awareness of using mechanical ventilation as the primary solution to indoor air quality problems,” said HVI Executive Director Jacki Golike, CAE. Comfortech is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10 through Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.The “Green Ventilation Seminar Series,” sponsored by HVI, will be conducted on Thursday, September 11 and Friday, September 12, 2008. Thursday begins with “A House is a System” presented by Tex McLeod from The McLeod Associates. In this session, McLeod will demonstrate how the current trend to green building requires contractors to understand how a house works as a system to ensure that ventilation and indoor air quality needs are met. Thursday afternoon features “Indoor Air Quality Solutions – Knowledge Makes the Difference” presented by Dr. John Ouellette, M.D. who will share with contractors what they really need to know to identify indoor air quality problems and provide ventilation solutions that will work for all homes – new, old and green. The third session on Thursday features Gord Cooke from Air Solutions Inc. and Rob Ferris from Fantech Inc. presenting “Installation – the Key to Making Ventilation Work.” Here, Cooke and Ferris will lead a hands-on demonstration where participants get to see the results of high-quality and poor installation practices. The fourth and final session will be conducted on Friday and feature Don Stevens from Panasonic Home and Environment Co. and Paul Raymer of Heyoka Solutions presenting “Understanding Ventilation in Green Building Programs,” which will clarify the ventilation requirements of green building programs such as Energy Star, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Homes by the U.S. Green Building Council and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Building program. In addition to the seminar series, HVI is sponsoring a drawing for those participants who attend all four educational sessions. Attending all four sessions will complete the “HVI Passport” thus providing eligibility into the drawing for a variety of mechanical ventilation equipment packages. Prizes such as bathroom fans, heat and energy recovery ventilators, range hoods and more will be available; all are donated by HVI members, and of course, all products are HVI-certified.
