Kim Cheslak and Erin Beddingfield

 

 

Kim is the Director of Codes for New Buildings Institute. She has over 10 years of experience focusing on buildings and codes. Her career has included commercial and residential code compliance studies, working with local governments to maximize savings through adoption of and compliance with code, and managing sustainability portfolios. She supports NBI’s broader engagement in code development, with an emphasis on stretch codes and multifamily code adoption. Kim holds an undergraduate degree in Architecture from the University of Maryland and master’s degrees in Architecture, Urban Design and Social and Economic Development from the Washington University in St. Louis.

 

 

Erin is the Associate Director for Codes and Policy with the New Buildings Institute (NBI), where she supports jurisdictions across the U.S. in their efforts to advance codes, standards, and policies to decarbonize buildings. She has over a dozen years of experience working on greenhouse gas mitigation policies and programs in support of governments at all levels of jurisdiction and clients in the private sector for consulting firms, startup companies and nonprofits. Erin holds undergraduate degrees in economics and environmental science from the University of Mary Washington and a master’s degree in science and technology policy from the George Mason University School of Public Policy.

Presentation Summary

The New Buildings Institute (NBI) will overview their recently-launched Codes for Climate initiative, and discuss ties between that effort and indoor air quality and small fan efficacy measures. The speakers will also discuss potential pathways to incorporating heating and energy recovery ventilation (HRV/ERVs) into new construction codes. There will be ample time for Q&A and discussion with participants.
