The Home Ventilating Institute developed the Fresh Air System label to educate homeowners on the benefits of whole-house ventilation systems. Based on code adoptions, whole-house ventilation systems are now a requirement of roughly half of new, single-family homes and multifamily units in the United States. According to a recent report by the U.S. Department of Energy, "whole-house mechanical ventilation is a critical component to a comprehensive strategy for good indoor air quality." The Fresh Air System labels are distributed by the manufacturer with individual whole-house ventilation units and applied by an installer or builder.
