HVI Prize Drawing at Comfortech 2008 a Success

The Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) awarded more than $10,000 worth of HVI-Certified residential ventilation products at the 2008 HVAC Comfortech Seminar & Showcase, the premier residential and light commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) forum. Comfortech was held Wednesday, September 10 through Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Prize winners included participants who attended at least three out of the four HVI-sponsored Green Ventilation Seminar Series presentations. Employees of McNutt Service Group in Arden, North Carolina, won eight out of the 29 total prizes. Five of their employees attended Comfortech specifically to participate in HVI's ventilation seminars. "These seminars were very useful," noted Tommy Wilson from McNutt Service Group. "I learned a great deal about how to improve our business operations and about information I wouldn't have learned about other places, like ASHRAE 62.2."

A variety of prizes, all HVI-Certified, were donated by several HVI member companies including Airex, AIRIA Brands, Air King, Broan-NuTone, Fantech, Heyoka Solutions, Imperial Air Technologies, Panasonic, RenewAire, Reversomatic, Soler & Palau, Soleus Air International, Trent Metals/Summeraire, Venmar Ventilation and Ventamatic. There were six prize categories – Bathroom Exhaust Fans, Heat Recovery Ventilators, Energy Recovery Ventilators, Inline Fans, Other Room Fans and Whole House Comfort Ventilators. This is the second year HVI sponsored the Ventilation Seminar Series presentations and the first year with a green theme.

The Green Ventilation Seminar Series was conducted on Thursday, September 11 and Friday, September 12, 2008. Sessions on Thursday consisted of "A House is a System" presented by Tex McLeod from The McLeod Associates; "Indoor Air Quality Solutions – Knowledge Makes the Difference" presented by Dr. John Ouellette, M.D.; "Installation – the Key to Making Ventilation Work" presented by Gord Cooke from Air Solutions Inc. and Rob Ferris from Fantech Inc. On Friday the fourth session was conducted by Don Stevens from Panasonic Home and Environment Co. and Paul Raymer of Heyoka Solutions who presented "Understanding Ventilation in Green Building Programs."

The Home Ventilating Institute (HVI), founded in 1955, is a nonprofit association of the manufacturers of home ventilating products. Through a Certified Ratings Program, HVI provides a voluntary means for residential ventilation manufacturers to report comparable and creditable product performance information based upon uniformly applied testing standards and procedures performed by independent laboratories.

Today, HVI represents manufacturers from the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe, producing the majority of the residential ventilation products sold in North America.
